“I had no starting point for my search except the basic identity questions I wondered about. Who was I? Where did I come from? Did I have roots? How did I fit into this world? And later on, had I bloomed, and could I help others bloom, too? As a young child whom my parents adopted, I didn’t understand the enveloped environment of secrecy and the lies that blanketed the facts of adoption in my family. Were my mother and father trying to protect me? If so, from what would they protect me? Was it the lack of confidence holding them back from discussing the issue? Or was it the fear I wouldn’t love them? My parents never discussed adoption, mine or in general.” […]
